NLE Featured! ISS Rocker Rustic Inspiration

It is with great pleasure that we showcase an amazing feature from our friends at Inspire Smart Success!

We were so honored to have been featured after this amazing collaboration.
Deborah from Worship Luxury approached us with some ideas for a styled shoot and from there it was history.  We wanted a unique approach to a rehearsal dinner and this, we felt, was it!

RSVP to me and MC Artistry helped us tie the whole things together with amazing stationery and hair and makeup for a rocker chic look!

We loved Il Posto Accanto in NYC and its rustic yet chic vibe seemed perfect for our rocker inspiration!

Click the link below to check out the rockin' {pun intended} shots Stacie and her crew picked up from our styled shoot as captured by the fabulous Jared of J&J Photography:

5 Ways to Keep Guests Cool, Calm and Collected at Your Event!

Depending upon where you are, the heat can either be a blessing or torture.  In the NY metro area, the summertime weather can be hot or hot and humid (a very ugly combination)!

Brides/Grooms and general party hosts/hostesses are becoming more savvy in finding clever ways to keep their guests cool during summer parties.  Here are some fun solutions we've come across aside from your typical hand fan or custom water bottle label:

1.  Consider renting an ice-cream truck or snow-cone truck! This is fun and very different from the current norm. You could have them operate nearby (depending upon your location) and offer water bottles and snow-cones during your ceremony or for the duration of your outdoor special event.  Just make sure the music from the ice cream truck is NOT playing!

2.  Use as much reflective materials as possible if your event is outdoors. White is a natural reflector and try to avoid metal framed chairs as they absorb the heat very fast.  Consider fabric that is breathable when needed and utilize naturally shaded areas as much as possible for those that may overheat easily.

3.  If you can't use an ice-cream truck rental for your special event, consider a DIY snow-cone or ice cream bar!  Set this up in or near the shade as much as possible. Rent or borrow an 8' rectangular table, dress it with a color-matching linen if need be and fill boxes or large open vessels with crushed ice.  Decorate the table with all the necessary fixin's: cups, spoons, sprinkles, chocolate kisses, etc.  Ask the catering company to be on stand by and re-fill any vessels that have ice that melted away.

4.  Consider a late-afternoon function instead of a right-smack-in-the-middle-of-the-heat event.  Guests would be extremely appreciative of even a 5 degree difference when outside.

5.  Set up cooling stations!  You can get creative with these. One could be chilled water bottles, another could be wash-cloths absorbed with chilled water that guests could take to cool their heads, wrists, etc.

Recap: Saudhy & Bab's Cultural Fusion Wedding!

When Saudhy first called about our services for her wedding, I knew it was going to be one unforgettable journey from the start. They both shared amazing and balanced personalities as well as tastes that complimented one another so perfectly!

Throughout the months leading up to her wedding, we worked together to build upon a design board we created to really showcase who they were as a couple in celebrating a momentous occasion. At times it was difficult, especially with them in Georgia and Mississippi while us and their wedding celebration were in New Jersey, but we made it happen and worked out the logistics beautifully.

Bab, with a colorful Nigerian background, and Saudhy, with a vibrant Colombian background, wanted to incorporate their style and cultures into a unique wedding that really represented who they were as individuals and as a couple...and that's just what happened.

On March 17, 2012 they set the tone just right by using a Maybach as their special ride for their day. Saudhy and Bab used our iPad to read their vows (a first for this Church!) to one another, had a traditional African broom, and even celebrated the anniversary of the Groom's fraternity with a surprise cake!  The personalizations were many and so were equally the smiles.

With appropriate and selective attire (a total of 3 outfit changes!), they were even able to showcase and engage their guests with a Nigerian Money Dance followed by a Colombian Hora Loca (translation: Colombian Crazy Hour... think Sombreros, fast music, sunglasses and glow in the dark accessories)! Talk about an entrance ... times 3!

Needless to say, all the vendor professionals involved did a fantastic job for Saudhy and Bab and we all couldn't have been happier with the outcome. Congratulations again guys! xo

Gabriela Salamanca, President of FemCity Hoboken

I'm excited to share that I've recently been named the President of FemCity Hoboken, a brand new Chapter of Femfessionals!

For those of you that may not know, Femfessionals is an amazing organization run and meant for professional women.

Femfessionals connects ambitious professional women through connection lunches, fun and motivating workshops, social media, and the myfemcity.com blog to create individual communities within cities {FemCities} around the world.

Who is a Femfessional?
"A Femfessional is a savvy business woman characterized as positive, open-minded, driven, professional, ambitious and desirous of forming strong strategic connections to benefit each other personally and professionally, as well as for the benefit of her community. Not only is she motivated to succeed, she is passionate about the success of others around her."

So I'm sure you can see why I'm not only excited, but honored to be bringing this chapter to Hoboken and surrounding communities!  Currently this is the only chapter available in the New Jersey area, so definitely consider membership! {Yep, that was a promo pitch...but I honestly mean it!}

**Check out: Our FemCity Hoboken landing page!**

As President, I do plan to bring a variety of connecting lunches, events and activities that help women engage personally and professionally as well as the Hoboken community. I won't tell you too much, but I WILL tell you it's not anything like your traditional "networking."  There will be cocktail parties, "walking" meetings, inspirational guest speakers, and more!

Recruiting Board Members!
I'm looking to build a strong and talented team of amazing women to serve as Board of Advisors. You naturally must become members of the chapter, but benefits include being featured on the website, etc. We can discuss all the fabulous details, but these are the following positions available:

1. Public relations chair
2. Marketing and social media chair
3. Philanthropic chair
4. Community outreach chair
5. Social affairs chair
6. Member relations/guest speaker chair

If you think you've got what it takes to help lead a fresh and amazing chapter of Femfessionals in Hoboken (or know someone who's perfect for a position) please email me at: hoboken@femfessionals.com!

Stay tuned for more information and please contact hoboken@femfessionals.com for more information and to learn how to join!

Today marks our third year as husband and wife!

Today, April 25, 2012, marks the third year as husband and wife for Justin and me!

Justin & I walking back up the aisle! :)
Aside from being husband and wife, as many of you know we're also wedding and special event planners. As cheezy as it sounds, I always tear up at weddings. Bottom line, we both sincerely love what we do each and every day and we're incredibly lucky to have found our passion at the time that we did.

For those of you that have been on our journey with us since we officially opened doors for NLE over 2 years ago, we thank you and are gracious to have you as readers, contributors, friends and colleagues.

Today, I'm sharing a very special poem Justin's aunt Mari read at our ceremony that we both cherrish and hold deeply:

Sonnet XVII
Pablo Neruda

I do not love you as if you were salt-rose, or topaz,
or the arrow of carnations the fire shoots off.
I love you as certain dark things are to be loved,
in secret, between the shadow and the soul.

I love you as the plant that never blooms
but carries in itself the light of hidden flowers;
thanks to your love a certain solid fragrance,
risen from the earth, lives darkly in my body.
I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where.
I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride;

so I love you because I know no other way
than this: where I does not exist, nor you,
so close that your hand on my chest is my hand,
so close that your eyes close as I fall asleep.
----------------------------------------------------

The Epic Summit: Recap of Event!

After much planning, discussing, revising and then fine-tuning this event, it finally came and went out with a BANG!

The EPIC Summit 2012 proved to be 'EPIC' for many attendees and faculty members equally. Knowledge was shared as smiles were exchanged and friendships blossomed.

It was a priviledge and honor to lead the planning, designing & coordinating efforts for this special event.  The inspiration behind the summit came from using the five senses in conjunction with education. We focused on: see, touch, smell, taste and sound in relation to EPIC's particular goals/missions for this event.

What was seen, in many cases, also was touched, and involved all decor elements put together (fabric, lighting, furniture, etc) and educational elements (binders, pens, handouts, etc). What was heard involved all the comments, feedback and seminars from faculty and attendees alike, along with Moroccan inspired music for the surprise evening reception!  What was smelled, in many cases, was also tasted, and involved elements like specialty push-pops in our culinary sessions with Ari Starkman (The Elan), Asian-inspired dishes for lunch along with Moroccan-inspired treats for the evening reception.

The team we put together was fabulous and brought their A game as always! Below are a small selection of featured pictures from the event that NLE specifically did. For more, please stop by here!

While there are many to thank and commend for a job well done, we in particular must give a special thanks to the following professionals who helped make The Epic Summit a success from a design/plan perspective:

The Elan, venue
Flowerful Events, floral design
Events by Amable, entertainment and lighting
Hope Spring Photography, photography services
Feuza Reis Photography, videography services
All Kinds of Whoopie, dessert treats for soiree
AART Designs, stationery prepared
Invitations by Tracey, stationery printed

Where are you headed for your honeymoon?

Now that the weather is warming up and we're starting to finalize plans for vacations this year, we started talking about honeymoon destinations and where many of our couples are flocking to after they say, "I do!"

Maybe it's a vineyard in Tuscany (pictured: a family owned vineyard in Tuscany that we personally visited on our European honeymoon escape!) or a weeklong escape to Negril, but we're curious to know where you're planning to head! There are so many fabulous spots to visit in the world and we'd love to hear where you're going or even where you headed if married now!

So, where are YOU headed or where have you gone?
Comment below :)

Happy First Day of Spring '12!

Even though it's an odd week (we're supposed to reach 80 degrees on Thursday?!), it's still the first day of Spring!

Funny enough, we did hear birds chirping outside our windows this morning too. That definitely brought a smile. When I think of Spring, I think of new life, loads of fabulous color, and of course blooming flowers like cherry blossoms!

So to start this Spring season off, we thought no better way than to showcase a Spring inspired Tuesday Shoesday selection like this cherry-colored Miu Miu heel!

Don't say we didn't warn you!  ;)

Originally on stylemepretty.com. All Rights Reserved.

Pinterest is HIGHLY addictive... it has literally eliminated my use of a cork board. And to be really honest, I LOVE the fact that it has replaced my scissors and massive paper stack too as I was used to rummaging through inspirational photos of events, colors and textures for our clients in all sorts of magazines.

Now, we've started inspiration boards for all sorts of design-related purposes through Pinterest. We have boards for things around the home, architecture we love, event inspiration according to NLE style, and more!

Are you on Pinterest? Connect with us! Let's share our addiction amongst each other! ;)

NLEs Surprise NYC Wedding Proposal at Gansevoort Park Hotel

When Joe first called at the end of December, I was ecstatic. He seemed really caring and on a mission to create a perfect and unique proposal for his girlfriend Jessica of 11 years.

Image courtesy of Feuza Reis Photography. All Rights Reserved.
After meeting to discuss his ideas and our plans, Justin and I knew we had to get this just right. He is particular, dedicated and passionate and so his proposal had to be reflective of him and who they are as a couple. He wanted to propose as soon as possible, but knew we had some work to get through before we could solidify anything. We went through several ideas, but none were perfect enough.

Finally, I sent him to check out the Gansevoort Park Hotel and he found The Blue Room and fell in love with the space and private rooftop space adjacent to it. "It's perfect" were his words and that was it!

Their special day started with a day of ice skating in Rockefeller Center then up for some views and special quiet time as they watched the sun set at Top of the Rock

We had a plan in place so that she had NO IDEA he was planning to propose...and it was executed perfectly! We even had the fabulous photographer named Feuza Reis and her ninja sidekick following them around NYC prior to their arrival at the hotel!

We made arrangements for their overnight stay (and decorated their room with flowers, petals, treats & champagne), a romantic dinner at Gansevoort's restaurant and decorated The Blue Room with flowers and candles and pictures of them together over the years. We created two special floral pieces for them: one for their room and to take home, and the other as added decor for the Blue Room.

There was also a fake engagement party invitation made up for friends of theirs, which said that the engagement party was to be held at the Blue Room that night. Little did she know it was HER private engagement party and it was their names in the invitation (it had a slide-out feature that showed their names hidden inside!).

It was an honest pleasure working with Joe and we felt privileged and honored to be a part of his beautiful plan. We wish them continued happiness and love as they being a new journey towards marriage!

"Real" Event Planners v. "Wannabies." 4 ways to tell the difference.

Author's note: First, let me start off by saying that we aren't writing this post to upset or offend anyone or any company in particular. To be honest, this post came as a result of a long conversation between a bride (let's call her "Julia") and me. She had wanted to know what the difference was, and so, IMO, here it is:

{Warning: I'm being straight forward and real here. Like the saying goes, if you can't take the heat, then stay out of the kitchen!}  ;)

1. Education/Experience.
No, it is not enough that you watched JLo in The Wedding Planner. It's not enough that you planned your own wedding or helped your best friend with hers. Just like in any professional field, there are certifications, degrees and even plain old experience that are available and necessary. Brides or other event clients are relying on YOU to create that event or that everlasting memory and a "Whoops! I'm sorry!" or "OMG can you believe I almost forgot that?!" won't cut it when you screw up or forget something. No, this isn't necessarily a Corporate America career, but this shouldn't be your hobby or "job." If it is, then I'd consider it a high risk business that I would bet wouldn't make it past the short term.

So what should brides ask? "What is YOUR experience or education as a planner?" And planners, in retrospect, should be honest and upfront. For example, I came from a Fortune 500 company where I started my experience in this field and I also decided to first become certified as a wedding planner for added knowledge and to build that solid company foundation for No Limit Events

Looking to become a planner? Then learn the ropes the right way. I recommend you start with education. Next move into interning or job shadowing to learn the industry "in real time." Like many careers, it's quite different when you actually do it in the moment versus learning it from a text or course.

2. Insurance.
What if your planner gets sick on the day of your event? What if he/she has an accident and is unable to attend? Or worse, goes out of business and has your deposits/payments?

These are real and scary scenarios that no bride or event planner wants to go through. There are options for insurance as a planner and as a host/bride or groom (for one: WedSafe). Consider them! Outdoor events with no option for inside, unfamiliar territory, international events... insurance needs can be endless and unfortunately come in handy at unexpected times.

3. A back up plan.
Granted, if there is no option to move an outdoor event indoors, there must be a back up plan.  Clients/couples should have no fear in discussing this with your event planner.  Furthermore, they should not have to worry about an alternative plan on their own. This is, of course, what an event PLANner does (aside of many, many other things!).

4. Originality.
Yep, I said it. Originality. Potential clients should always ask if the images they are looking at are THEIR work.  Are those YOUR flowers? Are those even your clients photographed? If not, say so or at least indicate where credit is due.

I've particularly always dreamed of becoming an interior designer some day so (IMO), I think it's perfectly acceptable to judge a planner's taste and sense of style by the way they dress/carry themselves, office furniture/layout and color selections, and even by what catalogs or references are made!  Do they have the latest bridal magazines on their coffee tables? Are they familiar with the latest looks and colors? Granted, every planner has their OWN style and interests, but they should at least be versed in what's considered mainstream or popular.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So there you have it.  And thank you "Julia" for the chat that sparked this post. I was honestly amazed that "Julia" had no idea how serious these 4 items were!

Whether you're looking into a wedding or event planner or even just becoming one yourself, consider the 4 above. Be true to yourself and be honest! It can only bring good things, IMO...
