This post is for our procrastinator friends out there who seem to find these special holidays come around all too quickly. Stuck in a rut? Not sure what to get your sweetie ... on the day of? Well here's our quick, short list that might keep you out off that couch for the night. Ha!
2. Pick up dinner and hit Blockbusters. I don't blame you for not wanting to attempt to get reservations for a restaurant today. If your sweetheart doesn't like all the clichés involving Valentine's Day, then this route could be your savior. Grab some savory dinner (KFC's grilled chicken dinner? Morton's To go?). Then rent a movie (something you both will like...or at least something you'll put up with!) and set up your living or bed room for a romantic dinner and movie night right at home.
3. Have little ones? Get 'em involved! Whip out that Crayola and sticker collection and have the little ones get started on making a special Valentine's Day card, too! It's fun and a cute, creative approach to show that special Mommy or Daddy that you all care. But don't leave the little ones with all the work! Get started on a short, sweet poem to stick inside - in between their art work. If you have a spare frame, keep it handy and be sure to suggest to your sweetie that you frame it after they see it so that it's especially showcased.
4. Hit the jewelry store. When all else fails, you better hit that jewelry store! Whether it be a new charm for her bracelet, new cuff links, a new ring to add to his/her collection or a pair of fabulous chocolate diamond earrings, it's sure to please! There may even be a sweet little discount considering the day, so get on it soon!
And last, but certainly not least...
5. Consider a wine and chocolate pairing at home! Wine + chocolate, I don't know too many who can't appreciate the two. There are some great pairings available - here are some of our favorites:
- White chocolate + Korbel champagne. The sweetness in both balance out wonderfully here
- Milk chocolate + a tawny Port (especially if the chocolate has a nutty flavor to it!)
- Dark chocolate + a ruby Port or a nice Zinfandel for that touch of sweetness lacking in dark chocolate
- Bittersweet chocolate + a Syrah or Cabernet Savignon will work nicely and compliment each other.
their fabulous recommendations!
So what, if anything, are you planning for today?
Regardless, from our hearts to yours, have a beautiful Valentine's Day!
